Weaber, Inc. Supports New Penn State Forestry School

In early September, Matt Weaber, Dennis Brehm and Tom Buzby attended formal dedication ceremonies for the new Forest Resources Building at Penn State University. The occasion, attended by more than 400 guests, was presided over by Penn State President Graham Spanier, Dean of Agricultural Sciences Robert Steele and Dr. Charles Strauss, Director of the School of Forest Resources.

This was a special event for Weaber, Inc. in that the School has figured prominently in the company’s growth and development through the years. Weaber has employed many of its forester graduates, most notably Chief Forester, Dennis Brehm, class of 1975. Company President Galen Weaber has maintained an enduring relationship with the school’s Wood Science Department through his friendship with the department’s director, Dr. Paul Blankenhorn (pictured), who has served as a valuable source of scientific expertise and technical consultation to Galen on the physical properties of hardwood lumber. And Tom Buzby has represented the company’s interests on the school’s advisory board since 1996.

At the dedication, Weaber was paid tribute for its sponsorship of the school’s new Weaber Wood Physics Lab, one of four teaching laboratories housed in the new building. Galen and Matt Weaber decided to donate the new laboratory to recognize the important contributions that Penn State’s Forestry School has made to the scientific advancement of Pennsylvania’s forest products industry generally, and Weaber, Inc. in particular.

This fall the school is home to nearly 500 students pursuing degrees in forest science, wood products and wildlife and fisheries science. The new building’s interior was designed to showcase Pennsylvania hardwood products and it does so beautifully. If you pay a visit to State College, stop by and see it. It is located at the corner of Park Avenue and Bigler Road.
